Buzzing Things
Buzzing Things is a wildly experimental new album released this week that combines acoustic guitar music, field recordings of nature sounds, sampled flies, abstract noises and a 2:15 world band radio static solo. Come for the guitar songs, stay for the weirdness.
Tobacco
Analog electronic practitioner Tobacco uses whacked out synths & beats that are easy to label psychedelic. But much more, it's mad nasty funk. Here's two downloads: Dirt featuring Aesop Rock and Truck Sweat.
Ratatat
guitar synth duo - music that both rocks hard and is completely danceable - bang your head and shake yo' booty ;-) - four downloads here - all are good, but Mirando stands out
Deerhoof
I was beginning to doubt it, but creativity is surely alive and well! Highly experimental, but deliciously accessible, Deerhoof is hitting their stride with the new release Offend Maggie. If you know them, you'll notice a richer more folksy vein and Satomi Matsuzaki's vocals, as playful as ever, seem that much refined. Here's an assortment of downloads & streams both new and old.
Fuck Buttons
The soundtrack to your alien abduction. You're mind will be bent and you'll never feel the same again, but you'll have a smile on your face.
Tracks: 1) Okay, Lets Talk About Magic 2) Ribs Out 3) Bright Tomorrow
Pterodactyl
Undeservingly underrated. Stupefyingly brilliant use of the correct mix of melody, dissonance, feedback, noise, and rhythm. Plenty of freely downloadable material here. I love it all, but three succeed stands out as a favorite.
Deerhunter
Here's an in studio session. I love these raw recordings. Heatherwood sounds truer to its lyrics: frail and naked, much slower than the disk version. Dr. Glass is magnificent and poppy reminding me a bit of early Police. The maracas are a nice touch. Activa is in their more experimental vien. Cox's vocalisms are amazing in this one.
Animal Collective
Prepare to have your minds blown. Not sure where to place 'em: rock, pop, electronic, psychadelic. Whatever the case these guys rock! Hmm... Baltimore who'da thought?
Mars Complex Debut Album
This is a link to the really deep and interesting electronic music of Mars Complex. His debut album "Restless" can be heard at http://www.marscomplex.net/music.shtml simply click play. You can also get a free preview EP of the album (320kbps MP3).
Mr. Gnome
Comparisons abound, pfft! Make no mistake, Mr. Gnome has their own sound: yin & yang, tension & release, war & peace, mosh & gaze, and yes man & woman. A band who understands dynamics? o_O
