Tegan and Sara
Emotion stirrers, as great artists oughta be, done with their introspective honesty and passionate songwriting. This is rock, very good rock. Here you'll find them stripped down: acoustic guitar and glockenspiel. Four songs: Burn Your Life Down, Back In Your Head, Dark Come Soon (my fav), The Con, and an interview.
Thao
tangles of guitar, knots of singing, threads of beat and thump make a rope fit for hauling the heavy machinery of your day - Thao
Xiu Xiu
Some find 'em difficult, but give it a few listens, let your mind wrap around it, and it'll be worth the effort. Great care has been taken crafting these beautifully morose songs. Highly creative!
Fanfarlo
uber pleasant indie pop - good songwriting, nicely crafted and produced with layers of instruments: guitar, synth, strings, horns, etc. - distant and lazy vocals - they'll be at this years SXSW and should be one of the darlings of the festival
Joshua Jesty
Why go solo when you can go crazy, Joshua Jesty gives out record for free and tours country. Jesty (formely for post indie band this is exploding) unleashes a collection of solo tunes available for free (you can donate to his pay pal if you like) as well as a music video, blogs, and mp3s from every other point of his musical life. good times, or as good a time as the internet can provide.
Neon Neon
super furry boom bip mega electro pop - highly accessible dance music a la 1980s with throbbing robotic beats, synth accents, and crystal clear tenor vocals - makes you want to do the robot - the stand out track imho is Trick for Treat feat. Spank Rock a cool blend of hip hop with neonx2 style and a smashing falsetto chorus.
