post punk
Pterodactyl
Undeservingly underrated. Stupefyingly brilliant use of the correct mix of melody, dissonance, feedback, noise, and rhythm. Plenty of freely downloadable material here. I love it all, but three succeed stands out as a favorite.
Johnny Foreigner
Thick on energy, passion, spirit. Thin on exposure, tour dates in the US. Black on The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. White on Los Campesinos! Fast on creativity, depth. Slow on caution, fear.
Mr. Gnome
Comparisons abound, pfft! Make no mistake, Mr. Gnome has their own sound: yin & yang, tension & release, war & peace, mosh & gaze, and yes man & woman. A band who understands dynamics? o_O
Enon
Have your cake and eat it. Solid songwriting without sacrificing innovation & experimentation as happens all too often in the underground music scene these days. Sounding much more punk rock here in this live session than their studio work, you get a sense of their concert sound: raw and raucous.
Extinct Animals aspires to progressive change and psychedelia...a freakshow from San Diego
Extinct Animals recently released their first full length, "War is Terror", in hopes of aspiring others to proudly take a progressive stance politically that's pro-environment, anti-oil, pro-positive change, anti-old white guy redneck politics.
