Brooklyn
Ratatat
guitar synth duo - music that both rocks hard and is completely danceable - bang your head and shake yo' booty ;-) - four downloads here - all are good, but Mirando stands out
The National
nice, very easy to listen to, subdued crooner, elegant rock and roll - creative and visceral lyrics
Tanya Morgan
Despite the name, Tanya Morgan is a group of three male MCs. Grab the sunlighting mixtape free here, plus streams from moonlighting.
Falcon
Did you wtf the first time you heard Neil Young's falsetto? Recalibrate your ears for Falcon, you'll get the same, "ah ok I get it" after a few listens. You'll find mournful, soulful songs good for winding down a bit.
Pterodactyl
Undeservingly underrated. Stupefyingly brilliant use of the correct mix of melody, dissonance, feedback, noise, and rhythm. Plenty of freely downloadable material here. I love it all, but three succeed stands out as a favorite.
The National (Unplugged)
one of the best bands of 2007 - acoustic set here recorded at WOXY - don't pass this over - 3 tracks + interview
Les Savy Fav
post-punk indie rock godfathers have a new release: Let's Stay Friends and it kicks ass
A Place to Bury Strangers
A little 80esque Joy Division mixed w/ some Ministry smothered in static and you're about there. Best enjoyed at 125 dB.
Live Spiders (the guy from Bright)
Live Spiders is Joe LaBrecque of Bright. Please check out Bright's page (www.myspace.com/brightsounds) and the pages for Nonloc (www.myspace.com/nonloc and www.nonloc.com), the fantastic solo project of Bright's Mark Dwinell.
Cruel Black Dove
Sinister and soulfull electronic rock - think Depeche Mode meets PJ Harvey
