Hotlanta mayhem makers Black Lips put on one of the most insane shows you'll ever see. Garage rockers to the core, they have a simple and raw sound that'll please your inner cave man.

Deerhunter's Cryptograms is turning up on quite a few album of the year lists and with good reason. It has three different moods: a post-punk beginning, post-rock (space) intermediate, and a jangly pop conclusion all tied together with quite dark lyrics. Pitchfork gives us three downloads from the latter.

Here's an in studio session. I love these raw recordings. Heatherwood sounds truer to its lyrics: frail and naked, much slower than the disk version. Dr. Glass is magnificent and poppy reminding me a bit of early Police. The maracas are a nice touch. Activa is in their more experimental vien. Cox's vocalisms are amazing in this one.

Jared Wright and his group The Red Swill is an awesome band that you have to hear. My favorite is "Times Like These."
