New York
Ratatat
guitar synth duo - music that both rocks hard and is completely danceable - bang your head and shake yo' booty ;-) - four downloads here - all are good, but Mirando stands out
Vampire Weekend
if you haven't heard Vampire Weekend yet, do yourself a favor and follow this link - two previously unreleased tracks here - thank you daytrotter
The National
nice, very easy to listen to, subdued crooner, elegant rock and roll - creative and visceral lyrics
Saul Williams
Saul Williams posted his latest album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust (produced by Trent Reznor), a couple months ago for free download. (It's now $5 for the download.) Williams brings a spoken word poetry to experimental hip-hop arrangements. He's not a typical rapper.
Tanya Morgan
Despite the name, Tanya Morgan is a group of three male MCs. Grab the sunlighting mixtape free here, plus streams from moonlighting.
Immortal Technique
Immortal Tech is a hardcore militant leftist rapper. His two albums, Revolutionary vol 1 & 2 should not be missed. He hasn't released a new album in over 3 years, but he posts freestyles and singles on his MySpace page.
Falcon
Did you wtf the first time you heard Neil Young's falsetto? Recalibrate your ears for Falcon, you'll get the same, "ah ok I get it" after a few listens. You'll find mournful, soulful songs good for winding down a bit.
Pterodactyl
Undeservingly underrated. Stupefyingly brilliant use of the correct mix of melody, dissonance, feedback, noise, and rhythm. Plenty of freely downloadable material here. I love it all, but three succeed stands out as a favorite.
lcd soundsystem
Electronic funk with popish hooks, winks at the 80s, yet has a very fresh sound. Well written lyrics and tight production round off a sweet listening experience.
The National (Unplugged)
one of the best bands of 2007 - acoustic set here recorded at WOXY - don't pass this over - 3 tracks + interview
