Deerhoof
I was beginning to doubt it, but creativity is surely alive and well! Highly experimental, but deliciously accessible, Deerhoof is hitting their stride with the new release Offend Maggie. If you know them, you'll notice a richer more folksy vein and Satomi Matsuzaki's vocals, as playful as ever, seem that much refined. Here's an assortment of downloads & streams both new and old.
Casiotone for the Painfully Alone
lo-fi electronic goodness constructed w/ cheap casio keyboards - plain spoken, yet deep lyrics - perfect for that mellow introspective mood
Dodos - Live
amazingly creative with acoustic instruments in hand - leaves me dumbfounded - imho the best band alive - here's a video of the concert + interview + mp3 download - thanks so much Amoeba
The Dodos
Stuttering guitars, floating voices, and triumphant drums like the sound of a hot summer evening right before the rain, with katydids nattering, humming birds and bees working the flowers, and the wind is just picking up to rustle the trees. There's a flash of light and a bit of thunder off in the distance.
Deerhoof
delightfully scatterbrained art rock; psychedelic without being hippie/granola; effervescent feminine vocals
Thao
tangles of guitar, knots of singing, threads of beat and thump make a rope fit for hauling the heavy machinery of your day - Thao
Xiu Xiu
Some find 'em difficult, but give it a few listens, let your mind wrap around it, and it'll be worth the effort. Great care has been taken crafting these beautifully morose songs. Highly creative!
Trainwreck Riders
alt-country - heavily influenced by old timey country & fiddle music - fast paced and energetic
John Vanderslice
Here's a thoughtful songwriter, multi-talented musician, and old school analog recording purist. I'm feeling a little dirty linking to mp3 recordings of this analog craftsman. Whatsa guy ta do with this interweb thing an stuff? There's a wealth of links and downloads here. Thanks JV.
JRK
Not yer status quo - chilled-out (for the most part) beats - insightful lyrics - featuring MCs Knows (Uspros), Pariah (a.k.a. Neal Rames), and Joe Con
