Fanfarlo
uber pleasant indie pop - good songwriting, nicely crafted and produced with layers of instruments: guitar, synth, strings, horns, etc. - distant and lazy vocals - they'll be at this years SXSW and should be one of the darlings of the festival
Evangelicals
Beautiful experimental, yet only slightly strange, guitar/synth pop. I mean strange in a good way, without sounding forced or pretentious. They seem to have an appreciation for the macabre as can be witnessed in their lyrics, fascination with skeletons, album artwork, etc.
Tegan and Sara
Emotion stirrers, as great artists oughta be, done with their introspective honesty and passionate songwriting. This is rock, very good rock. Here you'll find them stripped down: acoustic guitar and glockenspiel. Four songs: Burn Your Life Down, Back In Your Head, Dark Come Soon (my fav), The Con, and an interview.
Ra Ra Riot
lounge act session - six piece exuberant ny indie pop - you'll hear the influence of their scene: esp. Vampire Weekend, but distinguishable by their chamber music backing and power pop leanings - i hear 80's pop influences as well a la Dexys Midnight Runners et Morrissey (vocal style) - bon appetit
Run Dan Run
small operations indie pop rock band, controlled by aliens, and bent on an earth superannihilation plan - stay away lest you fall prey to their incredibly infectious music - you've been warned
Okkervil River
up-tempo indie pop rock with clear tenor vocals and crunchy guitars - lyrics passionate and heavy with metaphor - download the Golden Opportunities mixtape here
The New Pornographers
"Music is the new pornography." - Jimmy Swaggart Canadian indie rockers whose sound is highly influenced by such power pop bands as The Cars and Cheap Trick, although their songs are generally of a greater melodic and harmonic complexity. - Wikipedia
Coming Soon
Le Rock de France c'est bon. Indie pop troupe Coming Soon has a catchy arty garage droning sound in the vein of Velvet Underground complete with Lou Reed / Nico-esque vocals.
Vampire Weekend
if you haven't heard Vampire Weekend yet, do yourself a favor and follow this link - two previously unreleased tracks here - thank you daytrotter
